Take Action For Electric Buses in Massachusetts

Dear MBTA Fiscal Management and Control Board,

As cities and states begin to reopen from the novel Coronavirus pandemic, transportation pollution is reemerging as a main source of public health and air quality problems in the greater Boston region. However, there is a way forward. When we switch to zero-emissions buses, communities see huge benefits: lower rates of asthma, improved air quality, and larger-scale climate benefits.

It is essential that the MBTA commit to procuring zero-emission electric buses this summer, and break its reliance on fossil fuels. I urge the MBTA to also commit to full fleet electrification by 2030, and construct bus maintenance facilities that are equipped with charging infrastructure.

Sincerely,
