Protect frontline workers from coronavirus

We're calling on the Secretary of Labor to enact an emergency standard to protect frontline workers, including first responders and health care workers, from the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Ensuring their safety will help ensure all of ours.

Dear Secretary Eugene Scalia,

The window to slow the pace of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is closing quickly. That's why I'm writing to urge you to direct the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to grant the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations' (AFL-CIO's) March 6, 2020, petition for an OSHA emergency temporary standard (ETS) to help protect frontline workers from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Protecting workers who interact with the public, including first responders and health care workers, is a key way to help protect all of us. Without a standard that ensures their safety, the virus will continue to spread unchecked and could cripple our health care and transportation systems.

Please act quickly to establish an emergency standard to protect frontline workers from COVID-19 and work directly with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure the standard follows all appropriate protocols to limit the spread of the virus.
