Tell DOT to Act on Carbon Emissions
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is poised to release a new set of rules that will establish how to measure performance for our highways, transit, and safety. While these new rules will cover a number of different emissions, carbon is notably lacking from the rule. Nearly one-third of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation and 83 percent of emissions in the transportation sector come from tailpipes.
Thus far, U.S. DOT has resisted calls to include carbon in the new performance measures, but with enough support we can change that.
